Sandpaper
2.0 is created by a global team with members spanning seven
countries in four continents. It’s a great place to gain
organizational leadership experience (even if we do say so
ourselves), network with the alumni community,
enhance

Aanand
(95) has
been working with Agilent Technologies's Fiber
Optics division since '01. He studied EEE at BITS
and has a Masters in EE from University of
California, Santa Barbara. He sings for a number of
Indian bands in the SF bay area and is a board
member of a YMCA in San Francisco, and is involved
with other nonprofits,including Habitat for Humanity
and CLASS.

Antara Bhattacharya ('96)
graduated with an MS in Information Technology and MMS
from BITS. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband.

Anuj
Prateek, a
Physics student at Pilani, is from Lucknow. His main
interests are in physics and computers and aspires
to a career in research related to Unification
Theory and Application of Relativity in Development
of Computers. He’s our resident rocket scientist!
He’s also interested in poetry, table tennis and
horse riding, heads the NSS medical camps and works
as professional assistant for Computer
Programming-I.

Anupendra
Sharma ('87)
is Founder of a New York investment banking firm
focused on Mergers, Acquisitions and Equity
Financings. He worked as an investment banker in
Technology M&A at JPMorgan and in Industrials
Investment Banking at Salomon Smith Barney in New
York. At BITS Anupendra was involved in the EDC,
Sandpaper and the Music Club, was President of the
Economics Association, and captain of his wing
cricket team. He started Zero Deficit (Eco newsmag)
and edited Cascade (instru mag). He holds an MBA
from Cornell University (1998), Associate Chartered
Management Accountant degree from England (1996),
Masters in Accounting & Finance from the University
of Manchester (1993), and dual degrees in MSc (Hons)
in Economics & BE (Hons) in Instrumentation
Engineering from BITS (1992). Anupendra lives near
Princeton, New Jersey with his wife Rachna and son
Rohan.

Anuradha Gupta ('86)
(now Gupta) did MMS at Pilani (86-90) and then MBA
(International Business) at IIFT, Delhi (90-92). She
worked with Hindustan Lever for 7 years, taught
International Business briefly at SP Jain, was
Project Director with IMRB and had another stint at
marketing at an IT company in Greenwich, USA
followed by a much needed sabbatical. She is married
to Pankaj Gupta, a CA, CPA who worked with Levers
and is now CFO of Zirh International, Manhattan.
They have a 3 and a half year old daughter, Tannu
and Anuradha is busy with her hobbies, yoga,
meditation, writing (she is in the process of
getting her third book published) and her most
challenging and fun project - her daughter.

Ashish
Garg ('97)
graduated this quarter with an MS EE degree from UC
Santa Barbara (2003) and has a BE (Hons) E&I from
BITS (2001). Was the Instru co-ord for APOGEE 2000,
member of Department of Controlz, President of
Sangam and also a member of the Election Commission.
In 2000, he led the effort to computerize voting for
the Student's Union elections. Ashish lives in Palo
Alto, CA.

Chandy
John Benjamin
is a fourth year student contending with Physics
CDCs. From Cochin, Kerala, he’s interested in
anything that involves practical applications of
Physics. He enjoys reading as well as occasional
penmanship. He has been part of the Department of
Backstage, and is now a senior core member for Oasis
2004. He is also the current treasurer for the
regional association, Kairali.

Dilip
D'Souza ('76)
A one-time dabbler in software, DD now writes for
his lunches from Bombay. He graduated in EEE from
BITS (1981), got himself a MS in CS from Brown
University (1984) and did software in the States
till 1992. But he thinks he found his calling when
he began writing on his return to India that year.
He now writes regularly for various papers and
magazines, and has two books out from Penguin
("Branded by Law" and "The Narmada Dammed"). D is
married to Vibha Kamat and they have a son, Sahir,
born in 1999.

Dileepan Narayanan ('00)
He's
currently doing his Masters in
Industrial Engineering at the University
of Minnesota, Minneapolis. He joined
BITS in 2000 for an MSc in Physics but
transferred to a BE in Mechanical
Engineering after a year. At BITS he was
the captain of the BITS Cricket team and
won the Best Player award in BOSM 2k2.
He was also the Sports Secretary of BITS
and organised BOSM 2003, the Joint
Secretary of ELAS in 2002 and organised
Wordstock in OASIS 2002 and 2003. He
wrote and directed a play for the
English Drama Club, which was staged in
OASIS 2003, a member of the Poetry Club
for a brief while. He continues to
engage in quite a bit of reading and
writing. Wilde, Saki, R.K Narayan,
Hardy, and Tennyson are among his
favourite authors. His brother, Sriram,
is currently pursuing an MSc in
Information Systems also at BITS.

Divya
Divakaran,
is a final year student of Electronics &
Instrumentation, graduating in June, 2005. Though a
Keralite by origin, she was born and brought up in
Bangalore. She is a member of the Department of
Controlz and the English Drama Club, having acted in
a play in her final semester on campus. She loves
reading, traveling, and learning new things.

Gaurav Verma
is a fourth year student of Mathematics. Belonging to Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, he loves reading books (Dan
Brown being favorite), “computing” and music. He is
interested in web designing and was a part of the
APOGEE 2004 website team. He was also an intern at the Center for
Software Development (CSD) in ASP.NET. He is now in
Pennywise Solutions, Hyderabad for his Practice
School-2.

Imtiazuddin Ahmed
a third year student of Mechanical Engineering, with a
dual in Computer Science. He is from Chittoor in Andhra
Pradesh and a senior member of the Creative Activities
Club (CRAC ) and a BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM)
participant in tennis and athletics.He has been also
working at the Center for Software Development (CSD) for
the past two years and has designed websites like
Intrabits and MEA.

Madhurjya
Banerjee, B.E.(Hons)
Electronics and Instrumentation, batch of 2001, came to BITS
Pilani with 13 hobbies. Presently in his final semester,
he's doing his PS2 at SUN Microsystems, Bangalore. In BITS
he was a part of the Department of Photography(DOPY),
Photography Club, the English Press Club, SPIC-MACAY and was
one of the founder-members of Poetry Club. He was also the
President of the religional association, Moruchhaya. Not
only was Madhurjya the first ever second yearite to be the
Chief Editor of Cactus Flower, but he was also the one who
made CF available online.

Prasad Thammineni
('86) is CEO of
jPeople, based in Boston, MA.
Prasad has over 10 years of product development and
consulting experience delivering solutions to a variety of
industries. In recent years, his focus is on delivering
large enterprise applications. Prior to founding jPeople,
Prasad was the Chief Technology Officer at Specialized
Software and had significantly contributed towards the
growth of Specialized Software. He started numerous
technology practices including the immensely successful
WebSphere practice. Just within 18 months of starting the
practice the revenue generated by the group grew from zero
to $6 million. He is a frequent presenter at events like
Java Business Expo and various IBM conferences, as well as a
frequent contributor to Java Developer’s Journal and other
industry publications. Prasad holds an MS (Hons) in
Economics and a BE (Hons) in Computer Science from BITS.

Sandhya Krishnan ('99)
completed
her MSc(Tech) Information
Systems at BITS in 2003. Most of her BITSian
days were spent working with the Mime club, EDC
and the Department of Controlz while also being
the Cultural secretary of MB for a year. Campus
placements took her to Cognizant Technologies
where she worked for awhile before quitting to
join her dad in his security solutions business
at Coimbatore. Sandhya loves travelling, theatre
& adventure sports and has secret plans of
writing a book and opening a restaurant sometime.

Venu dabbles in writing but he is most excited about
cricket focused dreamcricket.com in which his family
has a stake.
A co-founder of BITSAA International, Venu is
proudest when talking about how this organization
has progressed since its inception in 2001.
He also takes a keen interest in Agastya
International Foundation, an organization
which aims to improve the quality of education
available to the under-privileged.
It aims to make education simple, creative,
interactive, and fun for all.
Venu holds an MBA in Finance from University of
Texas at Arlington (Class of '94), and holds dual
degrees in Economics and Computer Science from BITS
(Class of '92).
He is Series 7, 27, and 63 registered but
knows nothing about making money.
Venu is married to Kranthi who calls herself
a "BITSian by marriage."
Venu and Kranthi have a son, Vikrant, who is
looking forward to obtaining his BITS id - 2021B3A7.

Vikas
Chandra ('94)
is a member of technical staff at Tabula
Inc., a fabless
semiconductor start-up in Santa Clara, CA. He
briefly worked at the Central Research & Development
division of the European
semiconductor
company, STMicroelectronics at Noida (India)
and Crolles (France) just after his undergrad.
During his graduate studies at CMU, he worked at IBM
Research Lab at Austin, TX and Intel Research Lab at
Portland, OR.
Vikas has
published in international IEEE conferences and IEEE
journals and
has couple of
US patents pending. Recently, he has developed an
avid interest in photography and plans to do a
picture-portrait of BITS sometime soon.
He is involved with Sandpaper, BITSAA
academic council and BITS OLAB.
At
BITS, he was involved with Hindi Press Club (HPC)
and Hindi Drama Club
(HDC). Vikas holds a BE (Hons) in
Instrumentation Engg (1998) from BITS, an MS
and Ph.D. in CE from Carnegie Mellon
University (2002, 2004). Vikas
lives in Santa Clara, CA.
