Prof K.R.V. Subramanian (popularly known as Raja to BITSians)
has made contributions to BITS by the creation of institutions that have
given BITS an edge over other institutions, and will outlast all our
lifetimes. He remained at the helm of technological leadership of BITS
during a tremendously successful and satisfying 26 years that he spent
there. Prof Subramanian joined BITS, Pilani in 1974, and joined BITS upon
graduation in 1979 with MA (Hons) Economics.
After
1985, he taught courses in Computer Science and Information Systems. He
served as Group Leader of Computer Science for 3 years during 1986-1989.
In 1989, he started the Center for Software Development and served as the
Chief Coordinator till 1995. During 1990-2000, he served as the Dean of
the Distance Learning Program Division.
In
May 2000, Prof. Subramanian left BITS and moved to
Bangalore
to start AnswerPal (now Ascendum). He currently
serves as the CEO of Ascendum. He is also one of the Directors on the
International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and
Instruction. He still maintains very close ties to the BITSIAN community
in
India
and Abroad.

Amit
Sheth is a Professor of Computer Science, the director of the Large Scale
Distributed Information Systems (LSDIS) Lab, at the University of Georgia,
and BITS alumnus. Prof. Sheth joined the UGA and started the LSDIS
lab in 1994. In August 1999, Sheth founded Taalee, Inc., a venture capital
funded enterprise software and Semantic Web technology startup based on
the research at the LSDIS lab. He managed Taalee as its CEO until
June 2001 when it was acquired by Voquette, Inc. Subsequently he has been
the CTO for Voquette, Inc. (now Semagix, Inc). He has also founded another
high-tech company—Infocosm, Inc. He has provided consulting to a wide
variety of companies involving real world solutions to the real world
problems. His research has led to several commercial products and
applications (including SCORE, METEOR EAppS, and InfoHarness), as well as
two patents. From 1985 to 1994, he served in R&D groups at Bellcore
(now Telcordia Technologies), Unisys, and Honeywell. He received his
B.E.(Hons.,1981) from B.I.T.S., Pilani, India and M.S.(1983) and
